Kargil is the 2nd largest town of Ladakh division of Jammu and Kashmir and is strategically located at an elevation of 8,900 ft above sea level. It is at a distance of 60 km from Drass which is the 2nd coldest place in the world. Set at a distance of about 240 km from Leh and 205 km from Srinagar, Kargil is primarily famous for the Kargil war which happened in year 1999.
