Gulmarg as the word suggests literally means “the meadow of flowers” as was penned by the famous emperor of Kashmir Sultan Yousuf Shah of Chak dynasty. Set in a cup-shaped valley at a height of 8600 feet above sea level in the range of Pir Panchal, Gulmarg is at a distance of 57 km from the Srinagar city which can be covered in an hours’ time.
Demographically located at a high altitude the climate of Gulmarg is relatively cold in comparison to the other locations in Kashmir division. The highest temperature ranges up to 20 degree Celsius in the month of July and lowest goes to minus 8 degree Celsius in the month of January.

Set through the pine peaks, Gondola Cable car gives you mesmerizing view of the snow-clad mountains and peaks. The less adventurous ones can take horse riding to reach the phase 1 at Kongdori or phase 2 at Apharwat.
GULMARG GOLF COURSE
If the highest cable car in the world was not enough, Gulmarg is also bestowed with a green 18-hole golf course which is also the world’s highest golf course. Having both slopes and inclines, Gulmarg Golf Course is reckoned among the most beautiful 18-hole golf courses in Asia.
Another focus of attraction in Gulmarg is famous Khilanmarg which is situated at a distance of 4 km. famously called as valley in valley, khilanmarg is covered on all sides by mountain peaks having breathtaking views of wild flowers in spring season. You can have a panoramic view of famous Nanga Parbat, the highest peak in India along with twin peaks of Nun and Kun.
